SAMYA'S STORY

Samya Stumo was an emerging leader in global health. As described by her family, “Samya was passionate about revolutionizing global health, especially reducing inequalities and fostering empowerment for women and girls. She cared most about treating all people and patients as human beings, particularly in the context of their culture, family, and individuality. Samya was infectiously vibrant, intensely curious, and lived her life to the fullest. She had leadership potential, compassion, and intellectual rigor." Samya died tragically at age 24 in the crash of Ethiopian Airlines flight 302 on March 10, 2019. Despite being an early career professional, Samya made a lasting impact within the global health realm.

Samya’s family and ThinkWell Institute (ThinkWell) colleagues created the Samya Stumo Fellowship for Global Health  in her memory to provide exceptional young women change-makers who exhibit inventive passion, an opportunity to help revolutionize global health.

THE SAMYA STUMO FELLOWSHIP FOR GLOBAL HEALTH

This fellowship aims to accelerate early-career women on their pathway to leadership, entrepreneurship, and influence. The Samya Rose Stumo Memorial Fellowship for Global Health will invest in exceptional young women change-makers who have inventive ideas that look to revolutionize global health. The fellowship is designed to give young women the exposure, tools, funding, and mentorship needed to advance their ideas, influence, and careers.

Initially, the fellowship will accept promising women applicants from Kenya, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Philippines.
