UPDATE (05/23/17)
Thank you to all the prayerful people that have responded to this incident and who have supported Sandor Iron Rope and his family. They have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to each one of you.
Sandor is continuing to heal and still suffers from three bullets that remain in his body from the gunshot attack. He suffers from severe headaches and his vision and hearing are still impaired. He is working daily toward the full recovery of these injuries.
This experience has greatly impacted people in Sandor's family and community. We continue to hold the prayer that we can create positive change from this terrible incident. They are using this experience as a means of transforming "poison into medicine" so hope and encouragement may come from it.
The current financial burden from the medical bills is at
$105,529. Progressive insurance covered only $5000. Sandor is still facing this financial obstacle.
Any and all assistance at this point is greatly appreciated and each heartfelt action will have a lasting effect.
Thank you!
During Holy week Wednesday (March 28, 2018), prior to Easter Sunday, a Rapid City family was brutally assaulted by multiple gun shots as they drove their car down a common road in Rapid City, South Dakota. After being hit with the gunfire the vehicle struck an electrical pole. The victims were Sandor Iron Rope, his wife, and their two children.
Sandor Iron Rope suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the back of his head, neck, right shoulder and arm. He has suffered from a collapsed lung, shrapnel, 2 bullets lodged in the occipital region of the cranium and loss of sight/hearing.
As of the date of this post (Friday 13th) he remains hospitalized as he is being treated and the doctors monitor a blood clot to his brain. He will continue to be monitored for several months after his hospital release. Healing is slow but progress is being made. Sandor continues to be prayerful and optimistic as we are praying for FULL recovery of sight and hearing for him.
His wife who suffered two gunshots to the left shoulder is healing with assistance from wound care. His two children are healing internally however suffer from signs of PTSD.
Sandor Iron Rope represents the Lakota Oyate (Oglala Sioux) from the Pine Ridge Agency in South Dakota. He is a graduate of the Black Hills State University of Spearfish, SD. He has dedicated his life to health, wellness and cultural preservation. He has traveled extensively supporting spiritual and cultural preservation. He has donated his time to various mentorship programs within the Rapid City School District, the Johnson O’Malley of the Bureau of Indian Education and the Ateyapi program of Rural America Initiatives.

The Iron Rope family is forever grateful for those many loving spirits who have immediately responded with sincere prayer in their time of dire straits. On the healing journey comes many emotions; however knowing people of LOVE spreads healing LIGHT in those dark areas.
There is no monetary value that will ever replace a LIFE, nor can it fully restore the inner losses. But we do know that good heartfelt donations can support their healing journey, changes in lifestyle, loss of vehicle and their continued financial burdens.
