Car Kick-starter Campaign is underway...
As many of you know, Sarah and her husband Raul, serve in Honduras. They have a need for reliable transportation and we want to help them achieve that goal!
While Sarah was in the States for her grandfather's funeral back in May, their car went to the shop for what was supposed to be a moderate repair. Long story short, they spent a good deal of their funds for repairs and the car was not fixed properly. Ahh yes...mechanic issues know no geographical boundaries! Cosmetically, the car is in good shape but it's not running dependably.
Raul, shown here not long after they got the used car back in 2016.
If you have been to Honduras or know where Sarah lives, you understand how important having a reliable vehicle is. Being a gringa and being stuck somewhere on the streets of Tegucigalpa would be enough to test anyone's faith! So, here's what they have planned for a good course of action:
*Sell their current 4 door sedan. Value, IF REPAIRED, is between $2900-3300 (we will use $3100 as the middle ground).
*Sell a motorcycle to add to the funds for another vehicle. Value, $800.
*Look for a more suitable 4WD type vehicle, such as a Honda CRV (stock photo shown below). These vehicles are dependable and are a dime a dozen in Honduras. Additionally, parts are readily available there so it's a worthwhile consideration to have an SUV.

Some recent research shows CRV models from 2003 to 2008 cost an average of $5400-7300 USD in Honduras, depending on condition. Best case scenario, this leaves about $3400 needed to purchase something dependable. We are setting the goal a bit higher in case their current vehicle cannot be repaired in a cost effective manner or the vehicle they find to purchase cost a bit more than has been estimated.
Currently, their car is in shop for repairs so they are without Sarah's regular mode of transportation. This impacts their daily routine and ability to run errands, get groceries, and all the other things we often taken for granted by having a car. It also means she can't teach the English classes that she committed to. Public transportation to/from that area of the city is simply not safe (gang territory) nor is it cost effective for private transportation such as taking a taxi. Ideally, they'd like to be able to purchase a vehicle by the end of August which is when Bible study begins again.
Sarah and Raul are doing small groups in their home, which has turned into more of a small neighborhood youth group. The most faithful attendees are teenagers...and they're inviting friends! They'd like to include a movie night or type of weekend outing, which requires a dependable vehicle. They've made their needs known to the Lord and continue to pray about provision for a vehicle since it impacts every part of their life their, from work to running errands to ministry. Having dependable transportation would provide many opportunities for Sarah and Raul!
Now, we're making their need known to others. Many have asked, "What can we do to help?" Here's an opportunity for you to join with Sarah and Raul in prayer about their need for a car. Prayer is their utmost request, monetary contributions are between you and God (both are equally appreciated). We trust Him completely with the provision for their need in whatever way He would choose. Be blessed!
"Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God." Amplified Bible
