ATLANTIS II THE SHIP
HELP SAVE AN AMERICAN ICON
AND BRING HER BACK TO HER FORMER GLORY
Atlantis II is in danger of being scrapped due to the owners inability to maintain her upkeep and dockage fees as well as crew cost leans that are severely in arrears, due to loss of funds. The Capt. As well as concerned
Crew members, are trying to SAVE her to continue to be a source of American History as well as a asset to our future educational and humanitarian missions. She a multitude of capabitities such as dive ship, research and educational possibilities just to name a few. Because of the ship's unique capabilities such as 9000 gallons of freshwater can be made daily , the Hospital provides us with the ability to provide medical care on board ,deck space will allow (both above deck and below deck) to store water- food -medical supplies and supply portable generator etc. Large fuel capacity will allow us to provide fuel 2 First Responders landside . A first responder vessel is another great possilitity. Our large crane will allow us to carry and launch 2 rescue boats as well as numerous rubber rescue boats our unique transon staircase allows us to bring people on board easily.
ATLANTIS II. (unique history)
She has many notable FIRST'S in her career, such as one of the first research vessels to routinely take women scientists to. Sea and one of the first to employ female officers and crew.
Her contributions to our history began almost immediately on her second voyage intending to be a routine biology cruise - was interrupted with the news that the US nuclear submarine Thresher had sunk 220 miles east of Cape Cod and ATLANTIS II was asked to assist in the search she collected the first photographic evidence of the submarines remains. In Oct 1975 she
Departed woodshole for the longest voyage by miles of an institution vessel, a 573-day trip over 80,000
Miles around the world with a return to Wood holes in May 1977. Also she set a record for days at Sea on Voyage # 125, a 44 leg cruise which began December 29th 1989 ending June 10th 1992. She also set a record of 894 days away from Wood Holes and 575 days at Sea and covered over 70 ,3907 miles on that voyage. One of her most notable visits was to the wreckage of the R.MS .Titanic in the North Atlantic Sea, taking some of the first photos which are displayed here with the Alvin sub. This is just a sample of some of her history and why we need to save her. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!!
In closing, it should be noted that if we are successful in and saving the ship that the $600,000 will clear her debts. Then continued funding to put her back in "working" order, to continue her furture missions. Using her many unigue capabilities.
