Help save our small business, save our family.
Donation protected
Please help my family survive. The Elesits family, Tom, Szilvia, David (17) and Viki (14) have been fallen victims of LARGE SCALE DEVELOPMENT.
A dream turned nightmare business venture has pushed us beyond breaking point, now facing the LOSS OF OUR BUSINESS and consequently the LOSS OF OUR FAMILY HOME with 2 teenage children. Our family business and our lives are being ruined by a council approved construction as an unfolding slow motion train-crash for over 20 months now. Original trading conditions ruined and our life-line has been cut off by no parking for customers, bad language that drove away families, billowing cigarette smoke, booming music, indiscriminate use of heavy machinery use 6 meters from our food business at any time. The consequences of the gradual drop in customer levels to beyond 50% has been catastrophic and devastated our family harmony and our way of life when it's most critical in the development of our children (year 11-12 and year 8-9).
It is outrages, devastating and unfair that this can happen in 2019 in Melbourne Australia.
It is outrages that this is allowed to take place without safeguards in place , devastating for local businesses and residents and unfair that big construction with several projects (this one is producing 40 plus, million dollar apartment and 6 shops) can build and sell hand in hand with the PROFIT DRIVEN COUNCIL at the detriment of existing small businesses and residents. It is clear that when you gain 46 rate payers from 1, fair and reasonable does not play a part in either decision making or council processes (believe me, I have tried to plead) .
The hardship imposed on us as business owners and as a family has been truly devastating. And it's just got worse as we now face eviction by the end of this month (May).
My family is in this situation and yet we have done nothing wrong.
Please donate not just for us.
I want to acknowledge and thank the wonderful returning customers of Walk Don't Run Cafe, https://walkdontrun.com.au/ whom helped us survive so far and also provided moral support throughout these very difficult 2 years. THANK YOU!
I have discovered that our business is (obviously) not the only one in this situtation.
This happens all over Melbourne (at least). Other shops have already closed due to similar, development related influences. What about those families and those lives?
THERE IS NOWHER WE (SMALL BUSINESSES) CAN GO AND THERE IS NO-ONE (LOCAL, FEDERAL GOVERNMENT or AGENCY)HELPING.
I do not want this to happen to anyone else.
If all those in distress and drastically disadvantaged had a voice and an official body to represent us, we could ensure that development does not happen at the cost of small business' and families.
Apart from donations we are seeking:
pro-bono legal help, people who has successfully won compensation from council and/or developers or local government, a Small-Business Alliance that represents small businesses. If there isn't one then I would love to help create one.
Thank you
