A Campaign Fund to save St. Helen's School of Fresno, California
History
Saint Helen’s School was opened in September of 1953 as a mission school with grades one through five. The school was administered and staffed by the Holy Cross Sisters the first year. The School Sisters of Notre Dame took over the school the following year. Grades kindergarten and six were added. On December 8, 1955, the mission received parish status.
On October 4, 1956, the temporary school building was replaced with the first wing containing four classrooms and an administration building. The old building became the cafeteria with the addition of kitchen facilities. The eighth grade was added that year. A new convent was built in 1959. In 1961, a second wing and library were added. The kindergarten building was added in 1982, and their playground was completed in 1995. The computer lab was established in 1986.
On May 18, 2007, a mass and dedication ceremony was performed by Reverend John T. Steinbock, Bishop of the Diocese of Fresno, to celebrate the opening of our new library. This new state of the art building features a fireplace with reading area for the students and teachers, skylights to let the sunlight in, and a computer system to catalog all of our books.
Crusade Underway
With the help from individuals and families of our parish, community, and Catholic faith we need to successfully secure a firm foundation of Church teaching and education to provide Catholics with a solid intellectual and spiritual grounding for their faith, so they can understand, live and share it in their homes, parishes, community and workplaces.
Support Needed
Our beloved school is in imminent danger of closing because of long ago acquired debt!
Our children and families were devastated and when we were informed in March of 2017 that we would be closing 2 months later! We were shaken but have turned our devotion to our faith, and our children's educations into a truly inspired and blessed movement.
We are a group of teachers, parents, and students; not rich in money, but rich in the fruits of the spirit!
We ask that you give in the spirit of education, and of love. Thanks to our #miracleonbelmont (where our school is located, and yes, it's a pretty rough area of town, but we work hard and pray harder) we have raised a lot by making tamales, holding rummage sales, walked and ran our hearts out, all in hope to keep our family together and in tact. But we have a way to go and though the road is rough, we will not give up! And we are reaching out to our worldwide community for help.
Any and all funds raised will go directly to Saint Helen's students and to ensure that we will never face the threat of closure again. Please pray for us, give if you can, and share.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Our Prayer
Lord our God,
With you all things are possible.
We praise you and thank you for the blessings that you have bestowed upon this parish in the last 64 years.
We ask you now to bless our efforts to save our school.
Enable us to do what those who have gone before us have done. Strengthen our faith in Jesus Christ and our love and commitment to our children.
We ask this, through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
