Save the Daniel C. Munro Monument
Save the Historic Daniel Coman Munro Monument
124 year old family artifact faces the threat of removal and in dire need of restoration due to its declining and hazardous condition but you can help support its renovation!
This unique monument, located in the Elbridge Rural Cemetery, is beginning to collapse and unless funds to repair it are raised today. Due to its hazardous condition, the cemetery association will have no choice but to tear it down and replace it with a simple plaque unless we act today!
Priceless for its historical information about the early Munro family, the Daniel Coman Munro monument is both a beautiful landmark as well as a piece of art.
Date of Origin: April 25, 1893
Location: Elbridge Rural Cemetery, Elbridge, NY
Monument Height: over 15 feet tall
Materials: Outer metallic covering of zinc and an internal supporting framework of a ferrous material
Design: Genealogical information is stamped into its surface along with beautiful artistic styling
Problem: The internal framework has deteriorated causing the monument to settle and leaning precariously and is in danger of collapsing (click picture to see an angle). Its unique construction makes it too expensive for repairs to made via public grant funding.
Objectives:
• Disassemble the cast monument and remove damaged base.
• Build steel frame, heat and reshape base, weld to new frame.
• Reassemble monument.
• A new foundation will be added before reassembly.
I am Mark Conway Munro, a descendant of David Coman Munro's uncle David Munro (1784-1866). I have been working on a massive genealogy project researching the Onondaga Munro family and I am working directly with the Elbridge Cemetery Association and monument company to save and repair this monument.
