SAVE THE PEOPLE'S HALL

Donation protected
Please help us save this beautiful historic building from demolition. The ‘People’s Hall’ (or ‘Fresh Youth Academy’) dates from 1892. For over a hundred years it has been a treasured community hub providing a large variety of activities for people of all ages and abilities.
The People’s Hall is the only theatre space for miles around. It has a stage, a large screen for showing films, and exceptionally fine acoustics. It is ideal for all kinds of music – jazz, classical, folk, world, for choirs, chamber music.... – and drama and dance performances, rehearsals, workshops and classes. It lends itself to comedy; cabaret; book signings; film screenings, story telling; poetry readings.... and the space and light (there are large windows) to art exhibitions and arts and crafts activities.

Camden council plan to turn this remarkable hall into two private houses to sell.

However, they have agreed to cancel this plan if we can raise one and a half million pounds by July 31st of this year to buy the hall from them. The overall cost is £1.5, however, in order to demonstrate to the council and funders that the community are behind this project, we need to raise £100,000 through Gofundme by the 31st July. Meanwhile we are applying to other funding bodies to raise the outstanding balance.  If we don’t raise the full £1.5 then we will return any money donated.
Thank you!

Our vision:
Our vision is to retain the People’s Hall for community use as a thriving arts Centre: The People’s Art Centre.
If you are an individual, a corporate donor, a charitable trust, an arts organization.... please help us achieve our aim by contributing what you can to the one and a half million we need to raise.

Who we are:
We are a group of local residents passionate to retain this beautiful building for the use of the local community. We have known the Mission Hall for over 40 years as a much-loved space used by thousands of local people for community gatherings, staged plays, film nights, music performances and rehearsals, children’s parties and classes, Pilates, yoga and keepfit activities for all ages, and in recent years as part of a vibrant venue for young people which has spawned a very successful five a side football group, a recording studio for budding young musicians, woodcraft folk meetings, and learning groups...
We are completing the process of applying for registered charity status.
