SAVE THE WORLD TREE OF HOPE - THE WORLD'S MOST UNIQUE HOLIDAY TREE

HELP US KEEP THIS SYMBOL OF WORLD PEACE & HOPE ALIVE

The World Tree of Hope  is the largest origami decorated holiday tree in the world, standing over 23 feet tall and decorated with over 17,000 origami cranes and stars each hand folded and inscribed with wishes for the future of the world.

The World Tree of Hope has been created annually since 2006 as a symbol of global unity and hope to promote peace, love and humanitarian action. The tree is created by nonprofit Rainbow World Fund  as a gift to the world from member of San Francisco's LGBTQ  and Japanese American communities to the world.

After more than a decade the World Tree of Hope is moving from San Francisco City Hall.

We are grateful to announce that the Tree will be moving to beautiful Grace Cathedral in San Francisco!

WHY A GOFUNDME CAMPAIGN? The move to a new location is coming with new expenses such as moving and ongoing storage in addition to the regular expenses of creating the tree each year. We are creating a fund to ensure that the tradition of the World Tree of Hope will continue. Your donations will be used to pay for the many expenses related to creating and displaying the tree each year: storage for the artificial tree, paper to create new origami models (with 17K plus origami cranes and stars on the tree - paper adds up), fire proofing of the origami (all the paper has to be fireproofed), replacing lights, Internet costs (website, email service), printing and publication costs.

Designed as the world's most unique holiday tree, people world wide can help decorate the tree by simply sharing their wish for the future.

At the invitation of Rainbow World Fund wishes are sent in from around the world by mail and online at worldtreeofhope.org

The wishes are then printed and folded into origami cranes by an extremely diverse team of volunteers including members of San Francisco's LGBT and Japanese American communities, survivors of the Hiroshima atomic bomb, local children, and life-sentence prisoners from San Quentin.

Wishes from world leaders to school children, from San Francisco to Sri Lanka, make the RWF World Tree of Hope a powerful expression of people coming together to create a better world.

The origami "crane wishes" are then placed on the tree. Each year over three hundred people come together, donating over 2,500 hours to create the tree.

Notable wish contributors include: Dame Jane Goodall, President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Congress Women Nancy Pelosi, Mayor Gavin Newsom, Frances Moore Lappe, Kristi Yamiguchi, Danielle Steel, Shirley Temple Black, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Mariela Castro, Isabel Allende, RuPaul. Click here to see celebrity, notable and children's wishes.

The nonprofit that creates the tree is Rainbow World Fund (RWF) : Founded in 2000, RWF is the world's first and only all-volunteer, international LGBTQ-based humanitarian aid organization. RWF’s mission is to promote peace, unity and hope by leading the LGBTQ movement in participating in humanitarian relief efforts.

RWF helps both LGBTQ and non-LGBTQ people affected by natural disasters, hunger, poverty, disease, oppression and war. RWF's aid work creates visibility, builds bridges and allow us to demonstrate LGBTQ compassion and concern for the world.

I am Jeff Cotter the founder of Rainbow World Fund and I am volunteer at the nonprofit.
