Save Todd Hamilton's House

Donation protected
Over five years ago Todd was feeling under the weather in the summer. After a number of tests, he was diagnosed with essential thrombocytosis - which means his bone marrow is acting up and making way too many platelets - to simplify. So he began taking nasty chemo and working full time. The chemo him so sleepy that he was sleeping 14+ hours a day and could not work. After unemployment almost ran out - and stopping the medication so he could stay awake, he landed a job working with defense contracts, in his field of quality assurance. Many of you know Todd as the gifted artist, but his nit picky attitude also made him good at QA. Anyway in early May 2017 - he had completed two years of training in 11 months and was poised to actually start inspecting the bits and pieces for weapons systems that are manufactured in southwest Michigan. On May 17, 2017 he suffered a right side ischemic stroke - probably related to the excess of platelets caused by the thrombocytosis. His accumulated sick leave, vacation time and donated time from fellow employees ran out in July and he was living off savings. The savings are gone and his house, despite our best efforts is in foreclosure. I have helped him apply for disability retirement from his job (6-12 months for a decision), SSDI, (4 months for a decision) and emergency assistance from the state of Michigan (waiting on a decision, but it will not be enough to pay all the arrears!).  We have even applied for a withdrawal from his government retirement plan (received a couple days ago) and filed for unclaimed property in Michigan and Illinois. He could get assistance to pay his mortgage arrears, but to be qualified - under two different programs - the homeowner needs to have money to pay the mortgage in the future. He WILL have that money, but we cannot predict when the money will start flowing.

So today, March 10, 2018 the foreclosure auction is scheduled for Thursday March 22 at the Kalamazoo County Courthouse. The ONLY way we can stop this is to pay the arrears including attorneys fees. The arrears are a little under $6,000 and I have no idea what the attorney's fees will be - I am hoping under $2000.

If we can get the money together by Wednesday March 14 - that is the easiest pay-off, but it has to be all or nothing to stop the foreclosure and we need to pay by the 21st.

Please help if you can  - If he loses the house, he has no place to go and no income for a minimum of another 3 months.
