I am a Mini & Junior coach, ex-player and parent of children currently playing for Cefn Coed Rugby Football Club. We have nearly 150 children registered to play for us and we run a First and Second side in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, UK. Our local Council took the decision to increase the land rent to an unachievable amount for us during a rent review, and then, when we advised we could not afford to pay the increase, the land was put into an auction in London. This would have put our future at serious risk and thankfully we were able to negotiate a price for the land of £55,000 (inc legal fees). We had already borrowed £80,000 to refurbish the clubhouse, so we now owe £135,000 and it's going to be a huge struggle to service this debt.
We need to try and pay the £55,000 within 20 days. We have to borrow this money urgently, but we will need to pay it back quickly. The club does not operate in profit and any funds raised in the past have gone back into the development of rugby and our facilities. I have roughly claculated that collectively we put around 11,500 voluntary hours every year into running the club, training the children and adults, setting up the pitches, fund raising etc. etc. We are a community club at the heart of our village and we desperately need some help with paying back this money. I have set the target at £55,000, which is very ambitious I know, but we were just about managing to repay the £80,000 loan for the refurbishment and this additional debt could cripple us.
The club is in its 50th year this year and we want to ensure that Cefn Coed RFC is still serving the community for another 50 years to come (at least). Our club is a place where children's health, life time friendships and a sense of community can be nurtured and developed and it would mean alot to me personally, and to the community of Cefn Coed and surrounding areas, if any rugby or sports fans out there could assist us in securing our future. If you are able to help in any way at all, please support us.
Any money donated will go directly into the Cefn Coed RFC's account and will be used to help repay the debt.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and thank you in anticipation for your generous donations.
