Childcare Providers' Stolen Wages
Donation protected
Our daycare provider was home to children from 30 families. The center employed 10 women who loved, nurtured and cared for our kids every day. Many babies have been there since they were less than 5 months old and love their childcare providers like family. Our kids are delighted to go to school and often sad when it's time to go home!
On one days' notice Friday, January 20th, the daycare closed suddenly leaving staff and families in a panic. Families faced not having daycare the following Monday and lost all the money they had already paid - some families lost their payments through next May. Staff were now jobless and had not been paid in over a month. They are collectively owed nearly $14,000 in stolen wages.
The parents and children that love them want to make up their lost wages, but we also have lost thousands of dollars. So, we are turning to our friends, families and communities to ask for contributions of any size -big or small - to help make up their lost wages. These are the people that have helped us raise our children - they are irreplaceable.
The families and staff of the daycare are now working to transition the daycare to a worker run center in the hopes of keeping our kids together with the people that they love. Raising the funds to pay the staff what they are owed will help make this transition more feasible.
All families know the burden of finding good childcare that is affordable and close to home. In addition, we know that the people who provide care for children are undervalued and underpaid by our society. Help us pay back the money these staff deserve.
