Concerned about water marketers pumping our area’s groundwater and exporting it to cities? You should be!
Even if you don’t depend on a well for drinking water or to sustain a farm or ranch, you will be affected by this pumping.
Depletion of our groundwater will affect you, your property values and your community’s economic health.
And don’t forget the impact on water for future generations.
The most recent threat comes from the Lower Colorado River Authority. The LCRA hopes to join other groundwater marketers (and the City of San Antonio) who already have pumping permits that threaten the viability of our area’s aquifers.
LCRA bought the water rights for the Griffith Boy Scout Ranch near Bastrop and is seeking permits from the Lost Pines Groundwater Conservation District to drill eight wells there and export that water for sale.
Combined with pumping planned by the other water marketers, the LCRA’s plan will result in massive drawdowns (up to 300 feet) of the region’s groundwater.
Help the fight to kill the proposed LCRA permit!
