Solar Lights for Q'eros Kids
Donation protected
Help plant Seeds of Sunlight! Our goal is to provide sustainable, effective and durable solar lamps to families of school children in the remote Andean villages of the Q'eros Nation in Peru.
When we asked Q'eros families, "What is most needed right now?" The answer came back: "Please help us get solar lights so our children can read and study after sunset."
Many children of Q'eros walk for hours every day to attend school. Often, it's already getting dark by the time they get home. With no power source available for lighting it's nearly impossible to read or study. This can lead to falling behind in school and giving up on an education.
These Q'eros families want their kids to do well in school. They recognize how quickly their world is changing. They are aware of the importance of a good education in advocating for their indigenous rights. They understand the value attending school brings to preserving and honoring their cultural heritage and the environment of the land they steward.
Help us reach the goal to provide solar power to 50 families in the villages of Q'eros!
A donation of $25 provides a Q'ero child with a solar-powered study lamp .
A donation of $50 provides a Q'eros family with solar-powered light plus additional power-charging capacity.
A donation of $100 or more helps provide a 3-lamp solar system to light and power a Q'eros family home.
A donation of $1000 or more can help illuminate an entire Q'ero village.
Each and every donation, no matter how large or small, makes a huge difference in the lives of these families.
In the spirit of Ayni (sacred reciprocity and exchange):
Names of each donor of $10 or more will be included in a special gratitude despacho blessing ceremony held by the Q'ero elders in Peru.
Each donor of $25 or more will receive a photo and thank you card from the children of Q'eros (in addition to the above).
Each donor of $50 or more will receive a small hand-woven bracelet made in Q'eros (in addition to the above).
Each donor of $100 or more will be invited to attend a special post-project blessing celebration and documentary advance screening (in addition to the above).
It's so easy to take for granted the privilege and convenience of light and power. We only think about it in those rare moments we lose it and find ourselves scrambling to locate candles or flashlights.
Please take the next 90 seconds to empower and illuminate a child's home in Q'eros.
Your generous donation not only provides solar power, it also supports the empowered continuation and growth of the Q'eros Nation.
Kids Helping Kids!
As part of their 8th Grade Service Learning at Paulo Freire Freedom School, Callie Blackwood (14) and Nicola Carrion (14) are helping lead this campaign to organize, promote, and deliver solar power to the communities of Q'eros.
Your support of this project not only benefits the children of Q'eros... it also gives these Tucson kids a hands-on educational and cultural experience to last a lifetime!
We will give updates on the progress and will be documenting the journey.
