Send Danielle to Miss Wheelchair America

Danielle recently won the title of Miss Wheelchir Washington, which means she has the opportunity to compete for the title of Miss Wheelchair America! But getting there is not without costs! So our hope is to raise funds to support Danielle in this next adventure.

Here is a note from Danielle explaining a little more about this:

Dear Friends and Family,

I was selected Ms. Wheelchair Washington (MWW) 2019 in March. At the beginning of July, it will be my privilege to represent the great state of Washington in Little Rock, Arkansas to compete for the title of Ms. Wheelchair America 2020 at the National pageant.

The Mission of Ms. Wheelchair America is to provide an opportunity of achievement for women who happen to be wheelchair users to successfully educate and advocate for the more than 54 million Americans living with disabilities. Unlike traditional beauty pageants, Ms. Wheelchair America is not a contest to select the most attractive individual. It is instead a competition based on advocacy, achievement, communication and presentation to select the most accomplished and articulate spokeswoman for persons with disabilities. The selected representative must be able to communicate both the needs and the accomplishments of her constituency to the general public, the business community and the legislature.

I have been gifted with the ability to speak, write, and create art in many forms, and feel it is my duty to use these gifts in order to educate the public. My platform is “Intersectionality in Geek Culture.” I believe that representation matters. I’d like to be the representation that I didn’t have when I was growing up. To be a voice for those who don’t have or don’t want to be a voice in the public eye. To make a change in myself and the world around me by doing things out of my comfort zone and venturing to be more empowered by doing so.

During my reign as MWW, I am interested in participating in as many events as possible. If you have any connections to an event or speaking engagement, I would greatly appreciate being given the opportunity to speak about Ms. Wheelchair America and my platform.
Thank You,

Danielle M. Harada

Ms. Wheelchair Washington 2019

Money from this GoFundMe page will be used to help cover expenses associated with travelling and attending events across Washington State to be a representative of the Ms. Wheelchair Washington program. It will also be used to help raise the money needed to pay the entrance fee to compete for the title of Ms. Wheelchair America 2020 this July in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Expense Break-down:
- Nationals Entry Fee: $2,000.00*
*This not only includes the pageant cost but a week's worth of meals for two and stay in a hotel.*
- Nationals Travel Expenses: ~ $2000.00 (airfare and an extra night at the hotel so as to not be traveling and then participating in pageant activities in the same day)
- Gas: ~ $100.00/month or ~$1000.00 for the year (full-size wheelchair accessible van isn't exactly gas friendly.)
