Help the Jesse James family beat Sharon Rose’s breast cancer
A few short months ago, life in Trinidad was ticking along for Sharon Rose, Jesse, and their young teenage daughter. The hours were long, with Jesse working to build his small taxi and tour business, and Sharon Rose managing it in the background and juggling home life. The future looked good.
Then, Sharon Rose got the news, and their world turned upside-down. Breast cancer. First, the trauma of the surgery. Then the wait before hearing the results. Stage 2. And now, the long, crippling cycle of chemo and radiation. With its crippling financial burden.
The growing mountain of hospital and doctor bills threatens to undermine their lives
Jesse and Sharon Rose are accustomed to being on the giving end. Whenever there is a natural disaster, in Trinidad or on another Caribbean island, Jesse is organizing and giving aid. Whenever a holiday calls for celebrating with food and family, Jesse has mounted food and clothing drives for those less fortunate. For the James gang – as Jesse calls themselves – the needs of others always came first. Without hesitation, they could always be counted on to step up and step in.
To ask for help is – difficult.
How we can help
The time has come for us to step up. It’s time for us to help Sharon Rose and the James family beat this. And to help them get their lives back.
We estimate the treatments to cost upwards of $US 35,000. Perhaps we can’t expect Go Fund Me to raise anything near that. But with your generosity, we can help.
The costs
Any funds raised through this effort will be used for Sharon Rose’s treatments still to come:
— The 4th AC Chemo. $US 3,000.
— Twelve cycles of Paclitaxel Chemo @ $US 1,500/cycle
— Post-chemo Radiation approx. $US 17,500.
Total $US 38,500.
How soon is the money needed?
Sharon Rose’s chemo has already begun. Money is rapidly flying out the door. The family needs help now.
How Sharon Rose will receive the funds
Because Go Fund Me doesn’t work directly with Trinidad, we will be receiving the funds on Sharon Rose’s behalf. The funds will then regularly be transferred by bank drafts to the James family account in Trinidad. We will cover the cost of the bank drafts, so your entire donation* reaches Sharon Rose. (*Go Fund Me extracts a very nominal % to cover their costs.)

Important: Currency Clarification
GoFundMe does not work directly with Trinidad, so the funds you contribute must come first to the bank account of someone on the fundraising team – in this case, my bank account. Because I am Canadian, and my bank is in Canada, when you specify a contribution, that amount is in $Canadian. And what you contribute will arrive in my account in $Canadian, not $US, as you may have reasonably assumed.
If you are budgeting your contribution based on $US, please multiply that amount by 1.3.
If you are budgeting your contribution in Euros, please multiply that amount by 1.5.
So if you wish to give, say, $US 100, you should specify $130. (It will come through on your credit card or debit card statement as slightly less than $100.)
This problem of not being able to specify or use a different currency is with the GoFundMe system. It is a problem they are addressing, but have not yet solved. At the current time, there is only a very tiny, easy-to-miss “CAD” under the big “$”.
