I am 38 years old and I have Stage 4 Renal Cell Carcinoma. I am on oral chemo therapy. Traditional chemo therapy doesn’t work on renal cell carcinoma. There is no cure for the cancer I have.
I have 3 children ages 9, 11, 14. They are my world, my everything. I fear leaving them behind one day. I fear the uncertainty of their future without me in it.
I want to be there for them. I NEED to be.
I have medical expenses to pay. I’m at the doctor 2-3 times a week sometimes. I also want to raise money for Kidney Cancer research. I know there are researchers out there doing everything they can. That’s why I’m on a medication to try to stop the cancer growth but options are limited. I hope for a cure one day.
I also want to make sure my children have something to start their financial future. I’d love to have college funds for my 3 incredible boys.
Kidney cancer statistically occurs in men in their 70’s...Well, it can happen to anyone. I wish there was more therapy out there that stops this life taking cancer in it’s tracks. Please get tested if you feel you may be at risk. In my case, I have a genetic marker so my whole family should be tested for preventative care.
I encourage everyone to get tested for cancerous genetic mutations. Early testing is very important.
I had to stop working as a Respiratory Therapist. A job I loved. My body is in pain daily but I do my best to keep things “normal” for my kids.
I’m scared. It’s taken a financial, mental and physical toll on our whole family.
It’s a Nightmare I can’t wake up from.
I’m an otherwise private person so it took a lot for me to share my story. But it’s important. I know there are others like me out there. Young and unsuspecting.
Please pass my story on social media. I do not have Facebook or Instagram but I give permission for anyone to send my story to others for support.
Thanks.
