SAVE the VFW Post 78

Hi Everyone,

We are reaching out to ask for some desperate help to SAVE the Dearborn Heights, Michigan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post (VFW Post 78). Unfortunately, our post is in a position of closing our building, which would result in us not being able to help veterans. Our goal is to save 101 years of tradition of helping local veterans and members of our community. Right now we do not have the funds to repair our building, or pay our electric bill and many of our bills are overdue. The electric company has shut off our service to our hall leaving us unable to rent it out, which was our primary source of income. Your donation would ensure that we can continue providing help for local veterans for years to come.

In just the past five years, we’ve been able to serve the local veteran community in the following ways:
· We held a Stand Down for Women Veterans in 2014 which brought together over 150 at-risk women veterans and put them in touch with needed services and the camaraderie of each other

· Collected over 200,000 pieces of school supplies in support of Operation Homefront

· Donated items to help decorate the student veteran lounge at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and held a Veterans Day ceremony honoring their service

· Hosted a Thanksgiving meal for homeless veterans

· Annually we host a Veterans Day meal providing a free breakfast and dinner for local veterans to thank them for their service

· Coordinated and raised money for the war memorial at Dearborn Heights City Hall

· Educate local children about our nations flag and veterans

· Hosted the Walk a Mile in Her Boots display, a collaborative art project celebrating servicewomen’s service to our country


Additionally, our hall has held dozens of fundraisers for local veteran and community organizations. We want to ensure that our hall stays open as an option for organizations to host fundraisers and special events like Stand Downs.

The purpose of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is to preserve and support the patriotic and historical interests of our country, our communities and our veterans; to strengthen the common bonds of the men and women who have served and who are currently serving in our military; to assist them and their families to enhance their quality of life; to maintain true allegiance to the Constitution and laws of the United States of America and defend her from all enemies, whomsoever.
