Solar Powered Pump Out Boat
Donation protected
For 17 years, the Health District has administered a Federal Clean Vessel Act grant funded through the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEEP). The grant provides operating funds for the Shoreline Regional Pump Out Boat Service. This project began as a partnership between the Health District, the Town of Branford and the Branford River Project, and has since expanded to include several other town/cities along the Shoreline: East Haven, Guilford, New Haven and West Haven. The boats operate weekends from May through September. Any recreational vessel using waters from any town/city we serve may have their vessel's waste holding tank pumped--FREE OF CHARGE!
Over the years, this program has helped to pump out well over 300,000 gallons of sewage which may have otherwise ended up in the water.
With the recent expansion of our service, we are working to build a "fully-electric, zero emissions, solar powered" vessel. This will replace one of our current vessels with one of the first vessels of its kind/size in the world--without a traditional combustible engine!
Clean water is important for all of us in one way shape or form. And this new vessel will aid in our mission to keep our local waters as clean and safe for everyone as possible, all while keeping our environment green and clean!
We thank you in advance for your contribution and your assistance in helping to keep our Shoreline clean and beautiful for all.
Special thanks to: The Guilford Foundation, Greater New Haven Green Fund, Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) and our fantastic Pump Out Boat Committee for all of their support thus far!
