Solo OC1 Georgia Strait Crossing

Donation protected
(100 percent of all donations go to Charles Dickens Elementary School)

I have always believed that the ocean is an environment that continues to teach us and guide us as we grow through our own personal journey. The ocean must always be treated with the utmost respect because without the oceans we simply would not exist.

My goal is to successfully solo paddle an outrigger canoe (OC1) 38 miles (61 kilometers) across the Strait of Georgia from Nanaimo to Vancouver in one day. To prepare for the crossing I will be learning as much as possible about the waters of the Strait as well as taking on an intense physical training schedule.

I will be sharing my journey with the students and teachers of Charles Dickens Elementary School in Vancouver as well as running a fundraiser for Charles Dickens Education Program. All gofundme donations will go the education program at Charles Dickens Elementary School in Vancouver Mount Pleasant.

By sharing my adventure with the students I hope to inspire goal setting, preparation, and an awareness of our oceans. I have learned that education through outdoor adventure can have a positive effect that transcends in all areas of our lives.

There will be a two-week window from May 17th to May 31st to choose a day to cross the Strait. The spring Northwest winds must be less than 20 knots to allow for a safe and successful crossing. As the two week window to cross approaches I will be posting regular updates.
