Parenting can be joyous and rewarding as well as challenging. As parents meet the many demands faced by families today, they often need support to supplement their own knowledge and skills. The South Orange - Maplewood School District has established The Parenting Center to support parents as they help their children grow and develop. The Center's goal is to be a dynamic resource in our community addressing children's needs and parent's concerns. The Center provides parents with a full range of support as they help their children grow and develop.
The Parenting Center is founded on the belief that occasionally every parent needs support - often just a conversation with peers and/or professionals - to help with parenting issues and concerns. We are here to support parents and families in our school district. Participation is voluntary, free and on an "as needed" basis.
Your generous contribution will allow the Parenting Center to continue the meaningful and impactful work it does for families and students throughout South Orange and Maplewood. Each year, the Parenting Center:
* Sponsors an evening speaker series addressing parents' most common concerns. Speakers are nationally known experts as well as local professionals.
* Hosts parenting support groups on a variety of topics, including closing the achievement gap, parenting children with ADD or attentional difficulties, and supporting students during stressful events in their lives.
* Hosts parenting workshops on topics ranging from sibling rivalry, to bullying, to helping children and families navigating social media.
* Runs an annual Holiday Toy Drive that provides gifts for over 500 students and their families.
* Supports the Beyond the Bell After-school Program which serves over 60% of elementary school students in our communities.
* Supports families in need through our district-wide food insecurity initiatives as well as our All Hands on Deck program.
* Supports equity initiatives through the performing arts.
* Coordinates the Elementors Program matching 300 Columbia High Students with elementary school students throughout the district.
Thank you for your generous support!
