WE HAVE REACHED OUR FUNDRAISING GOAL!
Gratitude to the many who donated and supported this dream. For more information, please email us at [email redacted]
We are a new neighborhood association with big ideas! Our goal is to to raise $15,000 to create a very large community mural, for the people who live in this district--working class individuals and families, immigrants, refugees, retirees, low-income, community college and University of Iowa students, and more.
PHASE 1 of fundraising is complete! We've reached to $10,000 goal to start mural concept, design and outline. Now we move into PHASE 2 fundraising to cover costs of unforeseen/miscellaneous expenses, and Community Painting Days where neighbors and youth will come together during the summer of 2020 to paint the mural together. Please share this link with others who will consider supporting these public art efforts.
PHASE 1
$7,000 will go towards the concept development and outline application of the mural by professional mural artist
$3,000 will go towards the digital print design
PHASE 2
$3,000 will go towards supplies/paint
$2,000 will go towards Unforseen/Misc. expenses & Community Painting Days 2020
The schools, organizations and businesses in the South District serve many at-risk populations--Grant Wood elementary school, Faith Academy, Archibald Alexander elementary school, Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County, The Dream Center, Shelter House, FUSE, HACAP, Four Oaks, Youth Emergency Shelter, Goodwill, Salvation Army, Parkview East Campus, The Kingdom Center and many more places that serve adults, children and families would greatly benefit from from exposure to art and gain empowerment through creating community art.
This mural will be outlined by a local South District resident and artist, Nick Meister, who has recently painted a mural in the downtown Iowa City area next to the public library. He is eager to collect community input to create initial concepts, paint the outline of the mural, and help guide community members--children and adults--to paint-by-number a mural for all!
A mural this size requires a lot of paint, materials, time, energy, planning and guidance. Thank you Nick for waiving a considerable amount of your fees to make this project possible.
Another big thank you goes out to Faith Academy, for donating such a large and perfectly situated space in a heavy foot and vehicle traffic area at a point of entrance into a neighborhood that is made up of residential population and commercial properties.
Now we need your help! Any size donation--$5? $10? $100? It all goes a long way in this effort. Please share with others who might also be interested in helping as well
