Sparrow's Surgery
Tax deductible
FLOP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dog rescue located in Richmond, Va. We are asking the public for donations, so we can cover the cost of Sparrow's surgery on both of his rear legs. He is 3 years old and deserves to experience life pain-free!
Sparrow's Story:
On June 1st, FLOP rescue picked up 5 male Boston Terrier mixes from a local shelter with various injuries. According to the shelter, they were removed from the same location due to the owner being placed in a psychiatric hospital. They were all fearful, scared, and in need of serious medical help. We picked them up and took them directly to Dr. Miller at Crossroads West Veterinary Center, where he evaluated and vaccinated them.
Four of the five Boston Terrier mixes were transported to a rescue in North Carolina the next day. We were at max capacity, as we are foster-based, and they were willing to help us. We kept the fifth dog and named him Sparrow. Dr. Miller estimates that he is around 3 years old. He had multiple fractures in his rear legs that had never healed, which made his legs dangle. We have no idea how or when he sustained the injuries, but they were at least 3 months old, if not years old.
Dr. Miller offered to take on the massive challenge of trying to fix his legs. He started with Sparrow's worst leg, his left. He didn't have a lot to work with, but he was able to align the bones and place a bone pin into his leg to stabilize it. Unfortunately, it didn't work and the only option is to fuse his bones together. This needs to be done by a specialty surgeon at a different vet clinic. We knew it was a long shot and can't thank Dr. Miller and his staff enough for trying to help Sparrow.
In order to fuse his bones together on both legs, it will cost us $10,000. This surgery will be performed by an orthopedic surgeon. Sparrow will not have the mobility a normal dog has, but he will be able to walk and run around without his legs twisting underneath him. He is young and so full of life! Please help us give Sparrow a second chance at fixing his legs!
