Sponsored Homeless Sleep Out
Donation protected
Reports show that almost a 5th of young people are homeless within the UK alone. Figures by The Albert Kennedy Trust show that of the young homeless people, those that identify as LGBT+ are more likely to be suffering:
One in four of homeless young people identify as LGBT+.
Nearly four in five of them say coming out to parents was the main factor in becoming homeless.
Once homeless, LGBT+ youth are more likely to experience targeted violence and discrimination, develop substance abuse problems, be exposed to sexual exploitation, and engage in higher levels of risky sexual behaviour, than their non-LGBT peers.
As February is LGBT+ history month, at the RVCSU and National Student Pride we wanted to do something to raise money for the Albert Kennedy Trust as well as some shelters in the local area of Camden, to help them contiunue the wonderful work that they do.
We aim to raise £1000 in sponsorship while 25-30 students spent a night on the streets as a sleep out on the 20th February.
If you'd like to know more about this event, you can contact me at [email redacted].uk or attend our weekend event (9th-11th Feb) where we will have a panel discussion with 2 individuals that AKT has already helped.
