1911 Telescope Relocation Project
Tax deductible
Thanks to an anonymous donor, the next $2,000 donated to our Telescope Relocation Fund will be doubled. We're very close to our shipping goal, please consider donating today to help bring this bit of history to its new home.
Note: Supporting STEM and Space is a 501(c)(3) so all donations are tax deductible and you will receive a receipt for your taxes.
Giant telescope coming to Northwest Arkansas
One of the largest refracting telescopes in the world has found a new home in Northwest Arkansas.
The historical instrument is coming to the region through a partnership between Swarthmore College in Swarthmore Penn., and Supporting STEM and Space Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Northwest Arkansas.
Swarthmore College donated the 24-inch telescope through an agreement reached April 19, 2017.
We Need Your Help!
Swarthmore College is paying to have the telescope disassembled, and loaded into crates for shipping. We need your help to pay for shipping it halfway across the country. Our shipping provider estimated $12,000, the rest of the funds will be used to unload it into secure storage once it arrives in Northwest Arkansas. Any funds raised beyond the initial goal will be go toward the telescope's eventual restoration and installation into an observatory somewhere along the I-49 corridor.
