All gave some and some gave all. Officer Casillas, of Pomona PD is one who gave all. Gregg is survived by his wife Claudia, sons Gregorio (4 years old) and Mariano (5 months old), father Gregory Casillas, mother Marisela Casillas.
Officer Casillas has been a member of the Pomona Police Department family since March of 2015 when he was hired as a Pomona Police Records Specialist. In November 2015 he transferred to the Pomona City Jail as a Pomona Police Jailer. In March of 2017 he was hired as a Pomona Police Officer Recruit. Gregg graduated from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Academy in September of 2017 and was sworn in as a Pomona Police Officer.
On March 9, 2018 his last day as a training officer, the day when his dream to serve the city the community were about to come true he made the ultimate sacrifice.
That day at approximately 9:04 P.M. Pomona Police officers responded to a call for service of a person driving recklessly. When officers arrived, they located the suspect’s vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however, the suspect failed to yield, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, the suspect collided with a parked vehicle. After the traffic collision, the suspect fled on foot and a foot pursuit occurred. The suspect fled to a nearby apartment complex where he barricaded himself in a bedroom in one of the apartments. The officers secured the safety of people around and attempted to contact the suspect, when the suspect began to shoot through the door fatally striking Officer Casillas.
