Help Stephanie Fight Brain Cancer

Donation protected
Stephanie Huth Ramsey is a wonderful mother of three beautiful children, an amazing wife, a devoted Christian, and a person who would do anything for anyone, anytime. She truly is one of those people that make this world a better place. That’s why it’s so painful, confusing, and saddening to know what she has to go through now.

This week Stephanie was diagnosed with Stage IV Melanoma and underwent emergency brain surgery to remove a golf ball sized tumor in her brain. After the surgery she learned that this cancer had metastasized throughout the body to include the lungs and kidney.

The doctor shared that just a few years ago this same diagnosis would have meant that she would only be given a few more months of survival. However, he also explained that there have been many new medical advances in recent years that can offer hope of a long life to Stephanie and her family. The treatments and recovery process she must now undergo will be the toughest battle she has ever faced. A recent facebook post by Stephanie said “don't worry I've seriously got this. I'm not scared!”

Her recovery will not only take its toll on her physically and emotionally but it will be devastating to her family financially. This is where we are asking for your help. Please find it in your heart to donate something that is significant to you. In return, please know that you are helping someone completely deserving and in desperate need. None of us can take away her physical pain but together we can give her some security knowing her family’s needs are being met financially.

The biggest expenses Stephanie and her family are facing immediately are mounting medical costs and lost wages that her family was relying on. Stephanie is a 6th grade teacher in Detroit. Losing her income during this time will be devastating to her family. Her husband is also a teacher but he will now need to take lots of time off to support Stephanie.

What’s the future look like for Stephanie’s recovery?  Removing the Brain tumor was just the start. We don’t know for sure yet but we have been told all this could take more than a year. There is likely a primary cancerous tumor that started this and they must find it and remove it before it spreads. Since they have also indicated that it is in the lungs and kidney she will need at least three more “Cyber-knife” surgeries. Along with all that she will soon start "systemic immunotherapy."  This is not traditional chemo therapy, but similar as far as the side effects.  The doctor appointments are already mounting.  Stephanie cannot drive now so she will need to be taken to her appointments.  This will require her husband to take off work to escort her.  We are hoping that there is a way to get her sister, Tami, to be able to help with this but she lives across the country so this will require traveling back and forth.  There are also many other expenses that are not covered by insurance including over the counter medications, deductibles, co-pays and medical equipment that is required for self-care and mobility.

If there is any way you could donate something here it will be going to a truly good person and a wonderful family who needs our help so badly. If you are reading this and cannot afford to help financially you can still help. Just write something you know about Stephanie and how she’s made your life better and post it in the comments on this page. Perhaps others will read your notes and be inspired to give. Perhaps Stephanie can gain strength by reading the love she’s spread too.

A little more about Stephanie you might want to know as you decide whether to support her fight:

Stephanie is and always has been a beautiful person but it is her inner beauty that makes the world around her better. She has a natural tendency of seeing beauty in people that most of us have to think hard about. She was in Detroit one time with her sister Tami and they were approached by a very "strung out" looking lady who was obviously pregnant. Tami was scared and hurrying away and Stephanie told Tami to wait so she could stop and listen to the lady. Stephanie began to get tears in her eyes as she shuffled through her purse stating that she had to help this lady. This was just one instance but every person Stephanie has ever met is important to her.  Most recently she took a job in an inner city school because she wanted to make a difference.  She would come home from work with bruises from breaking up fights, but insist that it wasn't the children’s fault.  In what would seem like a war zone to many, Stephanie would see hope and took the time to learn about each student.  During her surgery recover she told her family that what worried her most is that she might be letting her students down if she can’t return. Only a truly special and amazing person would think of everyone else before herself at a time like this. That’s why Stephanie deserves our help now.

Thank you in advance and God Bless.
