On 23rd November 1995 Stevie-Kay was born a healthy baby girl or so we all thought.... At around 13 months old Stevie was admitted to hospital, she had ecoli meningitis.... She encountered many procedures including numerous lumbar punctures (spinal taps which altogether in the first 2 years of her being poorly she had 48!). Stevie was on life support and doctors didn't think she'd make it, they gave her 48 hours to live but against all odds Stevie finally started to get better and eventually pulled through.
Everything was great for a few months, Stevie had to learn to walk again but she was a happy toddler.... She was admitted to hospital again as her mother feared the worst.... The meningitis was back!!! This time it had travelled to her brain and caused hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain). Stevie needed operations on her brain and a shunt fitted to drain fluid from her brain. The shunt can block at any moment leaving Stevie very poorly and needing more life threatening operations on her brain to fix her shunt (even now at 19 years old).
Stevie started developing like a normal girl and took everything on the chin. At around 11 years old she started to notice the structure of her body was not the same as other girls, she didn't want to participate in PE lessons and eventually not wanting to go to school at all. At 12 years old the doctors confirmed she had scoliosis and by the age of 13 Stevie had to have yet another operation to straighten her spine, this involved discs being removed, her lung to be deflated and her ribs broken. after a week of having to lay in bed Stevie needed the second part of the operation where metal rods were fixed to either side of her spine, once recovered from the operation Stevie walked out of hospital but 6 weeks later started losing balance and then lost the use of her legs.
Stevie is paralysed from the chest down and is wheelchair bound, she now has scoliosis again this time the lower part of her spine which is making her hips uneven and causing terrible pain, hopefully she will not need to wait much longer for this operation as we have heard it could be in September. She also has arachnoiditis (chronic inflammation of the arachnoid, one of the membranes known as meninges that surround and protect the nerves of the central nervous system, including the brain and spinal cord. The most severe form is Adhesive arachnoiditis,
this causes severe burning pain and neurological problems), doctors don't know much about this condition some haven't even heard of it.
We need to raise money for a bath installed, adaptations and bath seats etc, along with other aids to help make her life a little easier and enable Stevie to do some things with more ease and hopefully reduce the added pain.

if everyone came together as a community and contributed a small donation I'm sure we could reach our goal, also if anyone has fundraising ideas/suggestions please let me know, thanks
