Student Incentives!
Donation protected
Hello Everyone! My name is Melissa Tovar, for those that may not know me. I am currently teaching 8th grade English Language Arts. I feel so blessed to be able to do something that I love every day and I do my best to motivate all of my students to reach their potential. However, I am aware that sometimes school is not the most fun thing for teenagers, which is why I have thought of creating classroom incentives.
What my classroom looks like: My goal is to create a space where students feel safe and open to making mistakes. I emphasize that learning is a trial and error process. It is ok if you don't get it the first time because I will be right here to guide you through it. I also focus on progress rather than grades. What does that mean? As an educator, you learn that children grow at different rates. One student's A, may not look the same as another student's A. Acknowledging differences in our students is vital as educators because it allows us to mold our teaching accordingly. In addition, I also value individuality and treating each other as more than classmates. We are a family. I question them daily on their wellbeing and open my arms to any student in need of help beyond the classroom.
When students show acts of kindness towards one another or when they do well in the classroom, the teachers at my school and myself give them tickets, which can be redeemed at certain points throughout the semester. Some of the incentives include snacks, homework passes, assignment passes, or little prizes. My idea is to include gift cards into this list of incentives. (Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Game Stop, etc.) The cards can range anywhere from $5-$15 depending on the store. In addition, it has come to my attention that our school needs soccer balls for the upcoming soccer tournament. If I am to go over $200 I will donate the necessary amount to our soccer fund, which provides students with an after-school activity they truly enjoy. I truly appreciate anyone who takes time to read this. I hope to be a teacher that motivates her students and is able to change their perspective on education.
If you donate, and you would like to attach a special message please let me know. If you would also like for your donation to be towards a certain store please include that as well. Thank you so much for your time.
Warmly,
Melissa Tovar
