STV Bavaria dancers won 1st place in the North American competition in July 2017. That means we earned the right to compete against the best of the best of North American and Bavarian Schuhplattler dancers in Bavaria, Germany in May, 2018. This will be an especially expensive trip for our members.
We are honored to represent STV Bavaria and Cleveland at this competition. This fundraising campaign is to defray travel expenses for our members. Your generous contribution is tax-deductible.
Please watch the video to see our dance style and traditional costumes.
STV Bavaria is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit and all-volunteer organization. Our members donate their time, talents, and treasure to fulfill our mission to promote and preserve traditional costumes, folk dance, and song of the Bavarian and Austrian regions through performances and competitions in the US, Canada, and Germany. And we perform a lot...26 times in 2016 and (so far) 21 times in 2017. As an all-volunteer organization, none of our members get paid for these performances.
Want to know more about us?
Schuhplattler und Trachtenverein Bavaria traces its Cleveland roots back to the early 1920s when four Schuhplatteln couples joined the German-Austrian singing society "Blau Donau." By the 1930s, they formed the Schuhplattler und Bauerngruppe Blaue Donau - honoring both the dancing and singing performed by members. During the difficult war years of the 1940's, most of the men in the group were in active service and group activities slowed. In the 1950s, group membership was buffeted by the many post-war immigrants who came to Cleveland. In the 1960s, the members voted to join the Gauverband Nordamerika, an international organization through which the bi-annual convention and dance competitions originated.
STV Bavaria has come in 1st place a record 10 times in the last 26 competitions in North America - more than any other member club that has competed.
To this day, STV Bavaria is composed of a young children's dancing group, a young adult through adult dancing group, and a singing group. Traditional dances and songs are still performed in the beautiful and authentic costumes of Bavaria and Austria.
For family entertainment at its best, the Schuhplattler dancers and singers appear at a variety of functions providing cultural enjoyment for audiences in all different areas and interests.
