Back to School: Lanka Landslide Aid

Donation protected
I first visited (and fell in love) with Sri Lanka in 2004, just months before the Tsunami. My mother and I fundraised for over 5 years and engaged in our own self devised aid projects, travelling to the affected areas ourselves (even during the time of war) to ensure 100% of the profits reached those most affected and in need.

Since September 2015 I've spent over 8 months living in Sri Lanka which has only strengthened my connection and love for this country.

As I'm sure you know, floods have devastated parts of Sri Lanka, in some cases entire villages buried by  landslides. I can't bear seeing people suffer like this and I am desperate to do something to help.

At the moment, emergency relief aid is being distributed which is making a huge difference but in the long run the aftermath will be equally  catastrophic. Children will have no school uniforms or books/equipment -fundamental to attenting school and completing exams, determing their entire future. Every child should have an equal opportunity and it would be so sad to see them suffer because of this horrific natural disaster.

I feel I'm in a position where I can make a significant difference.

We are in the process of selecting a badly affected village in order to help at least 100 students return to school once the floods subside and relative normalcy restored.

We propose to equip each child who has lost everything with the basic school essentials including:
- 8 exercise books
- pens & pencils
- school bag
- 2 uniforms
- a couple of textbooks
- shoes
- one toy and a couple of sweets

The estimated cost is £6 per child.
(NB All purchases from wholesalers to ensure every penny goes further)

If we raise over the expected amount, we will find more children in need and equip them too.

For friends and family who know its my 26th birthday on the 28th May and tend to buy me presents please consider making a donation instead- it would mean SO much more to me than any material object. I have friends, family and a roof over my head- these people have close to nothing.

For others who know me as Style in Sri Lanka, I would be very grateful with any donations you are able to make.

Similarly to my previous charity work,I will cover my own transport and accomodation expenses to ensure every penny you donate goes directly to th children.

If you would like to follow the progress of the relief operation please follow my Instagram account @StyleinSriLanka or let me know via email and I will add you to my mailing list.
