Shakespeare in the WI State Parks
Donation protected
We're the Summit Players, and we're back! Our second season will continue to focus on what we love most: sharing free, accessible Shakespeare workshops and performances with families around the state of Wisconsin.
THE PROJECT
The Summit Players are a traveling, seven member theatre company who present short, accessible, free Shakespeare workshops and performances to audiences around the state of Wisconsin.
Our goal is to use theatre as a learning medium and introduce children to a love of language, communicating, and constructive play, while providing adults with an enjoyable theatrical experience.
COLLABORATION
Summit Players performances are produced in conjunction with the Wisconsin State Parks system. The first project of its kind and scale in the state, our group of traveling teaching artists is working to improve availability of theatre arts education while encouraging people to get outside and play in Wisconsin's beautiful parks.
INNOVATION
The Summit Players style means you're in for a short, slick, silly 75 minutes filled with mayhem, character-switches and hilarity.
In our first season, we had a blast traveling the state, meeting the kids and fun adults who came out to play with us, but we can't stop there! We learned a lot about how we'd like to do it again, bigger and better. This year we'll be traveling to more parks, over more summer weekends, AND...attend our Season Announcement event on January 16th to find out about more exciting additions!
EDUCATION
The heart of our company thrives on our commitment to empower and inspire our community to discover the fun of learning through classical theatre. Prior to every performance, we host a free 45 minute workshop on Shakespeare's words and stories. We play games, work with some text, and try to alleve any "iambic pentajitters."
HELP US GET THERE
We need your support to make this second season a reality.
This page represents the first phase of our total fundraising for an expanded summer season. Where your money goes:
1. Travel expenses:
Help us get to the parks to do our work! We fit our gear, our bodies, and everything we need into two cars to keep these expenses low.
2. Telling the story:
The Players do our shows out of a trunk, with minimal props and costumes. But materials and professional artists cost money!
3. Spreading the word:
We want as many people as possible to be able to share in the fun. The more you share, the less we have to!
If you can, please consider donating the price you’d typically pay for a theatre ticket (or more!). But if you can’t donate, still come out and play with us this summer. Remember, tickets are free!
