Sundance Fire 50th Commemoration

Donation protected
In 1967 the Sundance Fire burned 56,000 acres in northern Idaho.  It was and still is considered a benchmark fire as it made a 16 mile run in 9 hours in heavy timber.  It is one of the hottest, fastest, and most destructive in US firefighting history.

Firefighters Luther Rodarte and Lee Collins were killed during the firefighting efforts.  No marker or plaque was ever placed to acknowledge their sacrifice.

Local organizations are planning to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Sundance Fire and need your help to offset some costs.  We are raising funds to:

* Lay a plaque for Rodarte and Collins
* Develop interpretive displays within the Sundance Fire area and at local museums
* Assist with logistics such as bringing the Rodarte and Collins families to northern Idaho, as well as providing informational materials for the commemoration events in local communities.

Sponsorship includes:
Bonner County History Museum
Boundary County Historical Society
Priest Lake Museum Association
Idaho Forest Owners Association
Society of American Foresters
Bonner County Fire Prevention Cooperative
   and others.

In cooperation with firefighters and community folks who remember the 1967 Sundance Fire.Luther Rodarte                                                                                  Lee Collins
