Support Fridoon, an Afghan refugee film maker

Donation protected
My name is Fridoon Joinda, I was born in 1993 in Kabul, Afghanistan.

For years, my family was persecuted in Afghanistan for our activities in media highlighting corruption in the government and superstitious beliefs. Eventually, we were forced to leave our home country.

Howver, I want to continue my work as a filmmaker. As refugee trapped behind barbed wire in a  camp,
I witnessed many human rights violations. I started making short films about the situation of refugees on my mobile phone.  When I got my camera, I made three longer documentaries about different human rights topics.

Now, I want to make a new film, but I can only continue my work and studies if I get some financial support.

- 4000 Euro can cover my new film project about child prostitution: wages for refugee actors, equipment and travel costs.

One of my short films - I am not dangerous

I saw people horrified and tired, people living in tents. Women, children, under the burning sun without any shelter, over 3000 people in a queue for food. Very soon we realized that these people had been living in this condition for months and that this is Europe. In the winter it was freezing cold and people died in their tents.

MAKING FILMS BEHIND BARBED WIRE

Despite all, I tried to distract my mind from the horrible conditions and at the same time to find a voice to express what I saw. I started filming the situation with a mobile phone.

My first short film made with a cell phone only:

Moreover, since 2016 I have made six short films about different humanitarian issues as well as three long documentaries produced by Valeria Hänsel. They address the everyday lived reality of refugees, the European border politics, deportations under the EU-Turkey statement, refugee protests, police violence, and arbitrary arrests.

All the projects were made with almost no budget and mostly with borrowed equipment. But I always received positive feedback. One of my videos (I am Not Dangerous) was awarded by the United Nations Headquarter for combat against xenophobia.

CONTINUING MY LIFE AS FILMMAKER
Despite all, I have many new project ideas that I would like to follow. Currently, I am writing a script for a short movie about refugee children in Athens, who are forced into prostitution to survive on the streets. As soon as I find enough financial support, I will start this film project. Therefore I am highly grateful for any donations to be able to continue my work.
