Help keep Williamsburg Endocrinology, Inc. Afloat and Private!

Though doctors are stereotyped as obscenely wealthy, there is a huge divide amongst them. There are many doctors who don’t have time to care about patients, some who don’t listen or take time for close examinations, and others who are aloof and uncaring. Then there are the doctors who really care. Dr. Roberts gets to personally know and care about her patients and their families.

In 2003, Dr. Roberts opened her private endocrinology practice in Williamsburg. She avoided becoming part of a big corporation, so she could provide the kind of patient- focused care her patients deserve. Though her specialty, endocrinology, is one of the most demanding specialties, it is also the lowest paying. Endocrinology is very complex and requires extra attention to be directed to the patient and their clinical data, where an incorrect dose of insulin could cost a life. Her income is also lessened by her choice to spend more time with her patients, in contrast to the well-known time constraints corporate medicine places on their appointments.

Endocrinologists are scarce, and the good ones are in high demand. In 2017, Dr. Roberts saw the opportunity to help more people in the Hampton Roads Area and hired a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to help meet that demand. Dr. Roberts invested time and money into her training and integrated her into the practice. However, after investing enormously in providing her with practical training, this NP left her practice. By that time, the practice had incurred a loan of $100,000 for working capital in addition to $20,000 for computer hardware and software, all of which was to help train this NP.  Dr. Roberts fully expected that the investment would have been quickly recovered with the NP’s income, however, this NP violated their verbal agreement and left Dr. Roberts with this debt.

Adding injury to insult, Dr. Roberts broke her left shoulder in a bicycling accident just prior to the NP’s departure. The injury required two surgeries and many weeks out of the office, adding to the loss of revenue. (Later Entry - Any monies raised by this Go-Fund-Me will only be used to pay down the $100,000 working capital loan which was last accessed prior to when any loss from the injury would have been noted.)

As her son says: “Donating will help Dr. Kate. She is a generous and fair doctor and gives genuine help to the Hampton Roads community. She has given everything to those that request it, accepting grueling schedules and eschewing the money that a doctor can bring in, to provide better care for her patients.”

Donating money to Dr. Roberts’ practice will help her keep patient-focused endocrinology care available in the Hampton Roads area. All monies donated will go directly into an account to pay down the outstanding loan.

“Thank you for helping Williamsburg Endocrinology, Inc. in our time of need. I know with your help I can keep my practice afloat and provide the personal, compassionate care this community deserves.” – Kate Roberts, M.D.
