Support Eli's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Hello everyone, my name is Nolan Sherwood and as many of you may know, and for those who do not, my best friend Elijah Ruffer was involved in a horrific hiking accident at Calico Basin on March 13th of this year. I have known Eli since grade school and have played both club and high school soccer with him. He had just returned in January from serving a two year LDS mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
He was out hiking with two of his friends when he suddenly slipped and fell over 25 feet off a boulder. He was rushed to the UMC Trauma Center where he is currently undergoing multiple surgeries for his injuries. Elijah broke both arms and elbows, left wrist, right hand, right knee cap, and left tibia at the ankle. He also sustained a fractured pelvis, eye socket and partially collapsed lung. Although he broke so much it was a miracle he is alive and with no permanent damage. However, Eli’s road to recovery will be a long and hard one as he will be in the UMC for the next week or two before being transferred to a full time care facility while he heals. After a month or two there, Eli will begin physical therapy for the remainder of the year.
Eli’s family is not asking or seeking for people to sacrifice their hard earned money as they know everyone has their own families to care for. However, I know that Eli will need additional support with his rehab needs and physical therapy above and beyond what his family's insurance will cover.
The proceeds will 100% go to helping Eli with his necessary rehab, physical therapy and care for the following year. Once again, this fundraiser is strictly for friends and family who are self wanting and able to help Eli through this difficult time. If you would like to donate and help our friend on his road to recovery, I would very much appreciate it and I know he would too. God Bless
