My name is Exquisite, one half of the high femme glam pop duo Sateen. I am a 33 year old transgender woman and lipstick lesbian married to the love of my life, Miss Queen Sateen. I am a musician, performer, artist, activist and nightlife personality. I have been living my truth as a trans woman for a little over a year now and have been on HRT for that same time. I am also a type 1 diabetic.
On November 9, 2017, I am scheduled to have Facial Feminization Surgery, or "FFS". FFS is a set of reconstructive surgical procedures that alter typically male facial features to bring them closer in shape and size to typical female facial features. FFS can include various bony and soft tissue procedures such as brow lift, rhinoplasty, cheek implantation, and lip augmentation.
Faces contain secondary sex characteristics that make male and female faces readily distinguishable, including the shape of the forehead, nose, lips, cheeks, chin, and jawline; the features in the upper third of the face seem to be the most important, but subtle changes in the lips can have a strong effect. My surgery will include work on almost all of these aspects of my face. The result will be a more feminine bone structure and general impression to my skull and facial features.
This surgery is both extensive and costly. Because of the current standards and attitudes held in and by our health care system, FFS is not something covered by the basic health insurance that we can afford. My partner and I are full time artists. We make ends meet by renting out rooms in our home, performing our music and hosting nightlife events. We are covering the costs of her procedures 100% out of pocket and are asking for your help to ensure that we can cover the price of my FFS. Aside from the surgery itself, we need to pay for other necessities such as lead-up visits to various specialists, x-rays, general anesthesia, a nurse, and the cost of being able to live without employment through her recovery. In all likelihood, my face will not be presentable for a month or more.
Queenie and I are humbly asking for any donation that you can spare in order to safely deliver me from surgery and carry me through my recovery. In exchange for your generosity, we will be offering a series of rewards. For a donation of $50 or more, you will receive a Sateen t-shirt! The shirts are white, 100% cotton and available in S, M, L, & XL! For a donation of $100 or more, we will also throw in a Sateen tote bag, available in pink and canvas color! The grand prize is available for a donation of $500 or more. For those lucky donors, you will have a day of glam, getting your makeup done by Miss Queen Sateen herself, hair by Sean Michael Bennett (hair stylist to Sateen!) and a photo shoot with Anthony Urrea!!! WOW!!!
I have spent so much of my life looking in the mirror, struggling to love the person that I saw. With FFS, I truly believe that I will be able to see the beautiful person that I know you all see me as. Thank you so much for all your love, support and anything you can spare.
