Support for the PSI Mozambique Team
Tax deductible
The IDAI Cyclone has devasted large areas of Mozambique’s Sofala Province, in addition to parts of Zimbabwe and Malawi. In Sofala, the towns of Beira and Dondo are the hardest hit, with an estimated population of 800,000 inhabitants. Populations in these areas are at risk of contaminated water, leading to cholera and other diarrheal diseases, as well as other health problems such as malaria and malnutrition. PSI-Mozambique is working with partners and donors to respond to needs identified by the Government of Mozambique and the United Nations.
PSI’s 25 staff members in Sofala are as affected as all other inhabitants. None of their homes survived the storm intact. They are trying to replace roofs, furniture, household goods and get rid of mold. At the same time, they continue to work for PSI distributing our water treatment products and other supplies to their neighbors. PSI has given them an extra month salary, but this won’t last long since prices are rising dramatically.
We cannot use donor money to help our staff rebuild their homes and lives. We’re therefore asking that PSIers contribute to this GoFundMe campaign for the benefit of our Sofala staff. The funds collected will be transferred to PSI/Mozambique, under the leadership of our Country Representative, Ryan Kelly, who will manage the funds.
