Aloha mai kakou!
We are putting together the FIRST EVER senior men's national team to represent Hawaii and Native Hawaiians in international basketball competitions. We need your support to start a program that will be around forever, so that present and future athletes from Hawaii can have the opportunity to compete against other teams from other nations. Since Hawaii is a US state, Hawaii is not able to participate in Olympic sponsored competitions. However, we can have our own national sports program and compete in friendly competition against other nations whenever we choose. That is our initiative.
To be eligible, one must meet ANY of the following criteria:
- Be kanaka maoli (native Hawaiian by blood)
- Be born in Hawaii
- One parent born in Hawaii
- One grandparent born in Hawaii
- Graduated from a Hawaii high school (Year 1 of each sport only)
Our plan is to create a full athletics program to include more sports:
Indoor volleyball
Beach volleyball
Soccer
Softball
Rugby
Track & Field
Swimming
and others
This is the initial campaign, and we truly hope it will also be the last. We hope to raise enough to get us started, and we will work very hard sustain ourselves for the future.
Your support, which we are humbly asking for today, will be used to get our 2017 senior men's team to our first competition at the World Indigenous Basketball Challenge in Vancouver, BC this August. The support we receive will also be used to conduct camps and clinics, and to host our own events so that we can sustain ourselves year after year in perpetuity. Your generosity will not only mean so much to today's Hawaii athletes, but to future athletes of Hawaii, who will be the beneficiaries of your goodwill.
