Former Merced High School & Atwater Elementary School District teacher and principal can use a hand up!
Brandi Bailey and her husband decided that their little family needed a change last year after over 20 years of teaching. She sold everything, resigned from her Principal position, and the family purchased a KOA camp ground in Durango, Colorado.
The campground opened in May. A beautiful little park. Not long after the opening a wild fire broke out. The area was evacuated. Brandi and her husband stayed behind to allow the firefighters to set up camp in their cabins during the firefighter rest periods. They were not able to run their camp or make a living for their family for almost a month. Brandi's husband was a firefighter and they knew they had to support the the firefighters and their new community.
Fires over ... Time to get back to life! Everything is going well! However, last week monsoon rains rolled through. The rains washed away the burned out mountain side. A mudslide leveled Brandi's home, livelihood, and shattered her world.
They had invested everything and lost everything in less than a year. There will be insurance claims but we all know that will be a lengthy process.
I had an overwhelming feeling that I needed to do something to help, help Brandi get back on her feet. After speaking to Brandi she expressed that they are truly struggling. They invested everything. Brandi, will be so grateful and appreciative for any assistance that you can provide at this time. Let's give Brandi a hand up... Not a hand out! That's exactly what she would do for all of us!
I have included links to the fire and mudslides and photos of the before and after on the KOA park. It is complete devastation.
