Supporting Everly Allyson

Everly Allyson Crandall was born on August 9th 2018 at 24 weeks and 4 days at 1 pound 6 ounces. From her first day of life she was only given a 30% chance. Everly suffers from severely underdeveloped lungs. Soon after birth she was diagnosed with the preemie lung disease known as BPD. Everly also suffers from a large PDA (hole in her heart that allows un-oxygenated blood into her body). With in  Everly’s first few months of life she remained extremely critical requiring high oxygen levels. Doctors tried several times to remove Everly’s breathing tube each of these failed and lead to Everly requiring higher and higher oxygen support. By November 2018 Everly needed 100% oxygen in order to breath. Doctors decided a tracheotomy was Everly’s only hope, but asked us to fully understand she was extremely sick and may not make it through surgery. My husband and I decided to go ahead with surgery. December 6th 2018 Everly underwent 4 surgical procedures 3 minor and the 4th being the tracheotomy. Shortly after surgery Everly took a turn for the worse and we were asked to sign a DNR. We decided against this and decided to let Everly fight. Now 3 months later Everly is growing and improving everyday!! We are still currently in the hospital going on 8 months now. We will hopefully be looking at a discharge date soon. However Everly’s foreseen medical road is going to be very long and very tuff for her. As her BPD is still severe and her PDA is still large, she will have surgery on her PDA sometime over the summer. Doctors say she will require her trach for 4-5 years. Due to Everly needing 24 hour care I will remain home with her while my husband continues to work.

What we ask most is to share her story, our beautiful baby girl has fought so hard and continues to do so everyday!
