MANY OF YOU are supporting or have supported SHE, the new choreoplay and incredible theatre experience created by dancer and choreographer Jinah Parker. We are THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL. You join folks like actress Gabrielle Union and playwright Eve Ensler and Emmy-winning actress Regina King as donors to SHE.
SHE is about sexual violence against women and girls, it is about what happens to women like Sandra Bland, it is about all women and girls, and it is about empowerment and healing. It is about our mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters. There is dance, there are monologues and dialogue between and from the women, there is music, there is film and video and photography, and there is truth-telling in ways we feel break new ground in theater.
In April of 2016 SHE debuted in New York City and SOLD OUT. The same thing happened in October 2016. But just like Eve Ensler’s THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES and Ntozake Shange’s FOR COLORED GIRLS…. this was just the beginning.
Earlier this year SHE had a inspiring run in MAY at HERE Arts Center in New York City. 15 performances, 15 audience talk backs, including a standing-room only crowd at the closing performance. Outlets like The Village Voice covered SHE, and the questions got louder: "When is SHE happening again?" "When is SHE coming to my community?"
So this ws just the beginning. SHE was back for two nights, Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21, at the New York Society for Ethical Culture, with over ONE THOUSAND PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE. And, finally, SHE is heading to a major Off-Broadway theaer in New York City in April and May 2018!
This is why we need your help, your support. For 2017 our fundraising goal for SHE is $150,000. By donating you not only support these upcoming productions of SHE, but also the SHE curriculum, community conversations and community partnerships, and other activities designed to create safe spaces of help and healing for women and girls.
PLEASE DONATE $5 or more as soon as you can to the work around SHE. If you can do more, that would be greatly appreciated. Every dollar counts in this work to end violence against women and girls.
We thank you,
Jinah Parker, The Jinah Parker Project
