Sweet Tooth for Lakota Youth!

Donation protected

The Cheyenne River Youth Project, a non-profit, grassroots organization located on the Cheyenne River reservation in Eagle Butte, SD. CRYP began the Midnight Basketball program in 1996. At that time, without proper facilities, Midnight Basketball was held in the school parking lot with portable basketball goals; goals that were hauled to the site at every event and hauled back to storage. Today, the teens are able to participate in Midnight Basketball programming in the Morgan Yellowhead Gymnasium, which is located in the Cokata Wiconi teen center. With access to these facilities, Midnight Basketball is no longer limited to the summer.  It runs year around, every Friday night throughout the summer and once a month during school months.

In Eagle Butte and on the Cheyenne River Reservation, there is a mandated 10:00 pm curfew. Faced with issues that go hand and hand with living in an impoverished and rural area - many of the teens do not have safe and positive alternatives to turn to, but what has always been clear on Cheyenne River is that our youth love basketball. The motivation behind the Midnight Basketball program was just that - to give our youth a positive and safe space to do something that they love.

This summer, CRYP celebrates 20 years of successful Midnight Basketball programming. And as part of that amazing achievement, we would like to celebrate this Anniversary by buying every teen who participates in the 20th Anniversary Celebration in July a blizzard from the Dairy Queen.

Each Spring the Eagle Butte Dairy Queen Chill N'Grill sponsors the annual fundraiser "Sweet Tooth for Lakota Youth." For every blizzard sold, Dairy Queen gives CRYP $1.00.

We would like to contribute to this fundraiser by asking all of you to help us by not only supporting youth programming with the Cheyenne River Youth Project, but celebrate 20 years of the Midnight Basketball program with our youth.

Every $4 donated will go to the purchase of a blizzard for a youth who participates in CRYP programming, and $1 will come back to CRYP for youth programming! Thank you for your support!
