Our beloved Lissa Driscoll (aka Washboard Lissa, Guitar Lissa, Ragtime Annie, etc.) has been diagnosed with throat cancer. She has asked me to let "everyone" know. She doesn't know what stage the cancer is in, but will find out soon with more tests. If you know Lissa, please send her your love and support! If you don't know Lissa, you should...she was a fixture in the French Quarter for decades before Katrin...a, playing with countless combos (including Augie Junior and the Big Mess Blues Band). She stayed during Katrina, so when the clubs on Frenchmen started reopening; she was one of the few here to play. I joined her then with her husband Roberto Luti, Ryan Donohue, Bee Kay, and others every Friday at Checkpoint Charlie's and every Monday at Apple Barrel Bar for what became a crazy adventure for several years. Lissa has been the subject of many other people's art, and Grayson Capps wrote a popular song about her, "Washboard Lisa" (even though Lissa has always said she hates that song!). She is one of the most intuitive, gifted, and beautiful people that I have ever known. She has asked me to relay her wishes to bring her her flowers while she is living.
From Roberto Luti - "Lissa Driscoll is one of the most beautiful, deep and true persons you'll ever meet. She gave all herself to life, music and people, and her city New Orleans. She loves you when you feel nobody does, feed you and give you hospitality even if you are the last of the underdog or the one everybody hates, she can see the beauty when everybody else don't, she'll charm you and give the most right on the money advices you'll ever hear. She knows more and knows deeper. She'll see rig...ht through your chest, no masks or disguise will hold against her. She's a flower in the Quarter. She don't bend in the rain, but stands higher and louder. She'll charm you as a rose, she's sweet as a cherry passed the thorns. She sings the blues for real. She helped a bunch of people out of the mud and shone light on the road they walked. So everybody in the musical community and beyond should give her a hand in fighting this battle, as she never thought twice before getting a bullet for someone else, as she never was scared to bring a fiddle at a gunfight."
Lissa is in need of funds for her medical treatment and expenses while she beats this cancer.
