SUPPORT OUR RESPITE COTTAGE FOR CAREGIVERS
If you've been there, you know. If you've watched your friends go through it, you know. Serving as the primary caregiver for a loved one can be a highly stressful and exhausting experience. The social isolation, the anxiety, the barrage of medical appointments, not to mention the financial strain, can be soul-crushing. Most people in this position could really use a break. That's where we come in, and we need your help.
A CHANCE TO RECHARGE
We are Kate & Manfred, and we want to share our cottage in coastal NC as a host location for no-cost respite visits for people who are emotionally depleted, physically exhausted, and financially drained as a result of serving their loved ones during a prolonged medical crisis or through extended end of life care. Our mission is to provide our guests the chance to regain their strength by enjoying much needed time away in order to reconnect with themselves and their loved ones.

Why this campaign? We know from our own experience and that of so many around us that the weight of caregiving can drain you to the core. If there is a way we can ease that burden for someone else by facilitating some time away to recharge, we want to make it happen. We’re asking you to join us in paying it forward.

Who receives a respite getaway? Guests of our Little Purple House are people who could really use a break. Currently, we work with vetted nominators, such as Hospice teams and hospital social workers, to make sure we support our intended audience. These professionals know the circumstances of the families they nominate, and are in the best position to determine who would benefit most from a getaway. We provide the destination.
Our GOAL: $3,600 by the end of the year.
100% of donations are put toward the operating costs of hosting respite guests. We are honored to provide the use of our home for this cause, but hosting respite guests requires a little more-- which is why we need you!
Your contribution will help cover the out-of-pocket costs of 24/7 on-site property management & guest assistance, professional cleaning services, security, insurance, household items such as linens, toiletries, pantry items, etc., as well as things like flowers and other small touches to ensure a lovely, pampered, and relaxed visit. Donations DO NOT FUND any expenses that could be considered personal gain for the owners (ie, mortgage or income).
Is it deductible? Donating to the Little Purple House is not tax deductible at this time. Having just gotten started at the beginning of this year, we are still in the "pilot phase" of developing an on-going program to support caregivers. Based on the success of this effort, we may look into becoming our own 501c3 organization in the future. Be assured that every little bit helps us welcome these weary-hearted guests, and create a relaxing, healing experience for them.
YOU CAN HELP SOMEONE HEAL
Respite getaways can have tremendously positive effects on both the caregiver and the people they care for. There are many benefits of taking a short trip, particularly looking forward to one. According to psychologist Judy Rosenthal, Ph.D, the happiness of getaway “comes in three’s: anticipation, experience, and memories, with the most pleasure coming from anticipation.” Our guests echo this sentiment, especially because their respite stays come at such a difficult time. Please join us in sharing this opportunity with those who need it most.
