UPDATE as of May 13 2019

We are back, still alive thanks to the antibiotics and grateful for a brilliant adventure and everyone's support!

The total amount raised after the GoFundMe fees and our expenses of 367.61 (for music and video licensing) was 4306.48! Thank you sooo much!

This means that both Cool Earth and Indus will receive over 2k each! (2153.24 to be precise)

We are organizing a time to do our cheque presentation with Indus, but see the attached receipt for our Cool Earth contribution. Thanks a million everyone! Most appreciated:)

Update as Of Feb 19th 2019

THANK YOU FOR HELPING US REACH OUR INITIAL GOAL OF $3000.00 - You are all rock stars! 

We will keep this campaign open until we get back in early May..... soooo time for a new strettttcccchhhhh goal.


NEW STRETCH GOAL: We will set it at $5000.00...but hey 100k would be cool as well:) But...baby steps!


We are cousins and Brampton Firefighters who are racing an auto-rickshaw across India as a charity fundraiser.  We know, it sounds crazy...because it is!  Obviously we aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer!  But, we are suckers for a good cause! 100% of the money fundraised will be split 50/50 between these two charities...


INDUS COMMUNITY SERVICES


Indus Community Services has been operating in Peel Region for over 3 decades.  Formerly known as India Rainbow Services they provide a number of community services such as senior care, health services and english classes for newcomers to Canada.  We have personally witnessed the great work that they are doing and are grateful that we can help out such a fantastic organization.

COOL EARTH



Cool Earth is a non-profit organization that works alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation and its impact on climate change.

Half of the world’s rainforest has been destroyed in the last 40 years.  And, contrary to the headlines, rainforest continues to be lost at a faster rate than ever. But it’s not too late. Cool Earth believes the rainforest can be saved. We just need a new approach.

That’s why we don’t create reserves or put up fences. We don’t buy land. Instead, we put local people back in control of their forest.

Local people stand to lose the most from deforestation but the most to gain from its protection. As such, they are the forest’s best possible custodians. That’s why all Cool Earth partnerships are community-owned and led – an approach that research is continually proving to be the most effective way to keep rainforest standing.

By developing local livelihoods, our mission is to end the cycle of deforestation entrenching villages into further poverty. Creating strong, self-determining communities – not dependency.

We are also the only charity that works solely where the threat to the forest is greatest, on the frontline of deforestation. And each of our partnerships forms a shield to make the neighbouring forest inaccessible to loggers – saving millions of acres of further forest.

THE PLAN

We plan to keep this fundraising page open and available until we get back from India in early May.  At that point we will close off the campaign and reconcile the account.  Funds for Cool Earth will be e-transfered directly from our bank account (where money is going right now) to their accounts in the UK and we plan on doing a cheque presentation in person to Indus in the first week of May. Everything will be posted here.  As mentioned above - the amount raised will be split 50/50 between the two charities.  We had a few hundred dollars in costs directly related to creating this campaign - the purchase of stock video footage, t-shirt printing and usage rights for the soundtrack (so we didn't infringe any copyright laws).  Go Fund Me also takes a small fee for providing this service.  We want you to know that all expenses related to the race and the trip itself are being covered by Dave and I, everything from flights to immunizations and new parts for the Tuk-Tuk are being covered by us directly!  Other than the expenses related directly to this fundraising campaign as mentioned above - your money goes directly to the two charities above.  If you have any questions or concerns, we want to be as transparent as possible so please feel free to e-mail Chris who is handling the money side at [email redacted]  We will update you with posts on this page.
