On October 8th, 2016, Teresa was bit by a spider that almost took her leg, and her life. The doctors stated if she hadn’t been found when she was, she would’ve lived maybe 12 more hours. She was very sick from this bite, and after being in the hospital for 2 days, she almost passed away.
Teresa spent a total of 14 days in the hospital when, against her doctor’s persistence, her insurance company insisted on her being transferred to a nursing home. Teresa was released to her home with doctors’ orders to have a walker and come in daily to doctors’ appointments to be checked up on regularly for the last couple of months. She’s not allowed to really do anything at this time, as she has to remain in bed with her leg elevated as much as possible. She’s not able to use the steps for at least another month, will have to do treatments on her leg for at least another 2 months, and then will be faced with physical therapy for some time after that. Right now, they are monitoring her diabetes, blood pressure, and congestive heart failure due to the stress on her body and immune system, along with her leg’s healing progress.
Her current daily treatments including wrapping her leg in wet wraps with medicated ointment twice a day. Some things are covered by insurance, but the ointment, tape, gauzed, large non-stick, allergic free pads are not covered, and she needs 4 a day. Then, let’s talk about the doctors’ appointments as she has them daily. She goes to the Mayo, and parking there can cost her $4-$8 PER DAY, along with all the extra gas that is getting used getting her to and from her appointments.
I’m sure you can understand the stress this has caused on someone that has an easy time of helping others, but a extremely hard time to ask other’s for help. Please help in any way you can to help Ma get through this tough time.
