School Text Books Destroyed

Donation protected
This was origanally a gofundme to raise money for textbooks for our school.

December 29th Update
The school was destroyed by category 4 Hurricane Matthew on October 4th, 2016. Unfortunately, most of the text books were severely damaged or washed out to sea… This breaks my heart to report to you but it’s the harsh reality.
Dame Marie truly looks like it has been through a war, it will take years, if ever for it to recover. We are so blessed that the school has been completely rebuilt, by some government funding and private donors. The children will return to school in January, we are so happy to be able to give them some of a normal routine again. Most of the teachers lost their homes in the hurricane and are now homeless! We were able to provide a wonderful Christmas party for the children and staff with a fried chicken meal and each child received a Christmas stocking with a solar flashlight and other goodies! They also enjoyed a movie after dinner which was a great hit.

I know that many of you have contributed so much already towards the purchase of text books for the children but if you have a few more dollars to spare or if you can share this on social media it would make such a difference. The children and teachers have been through such a devastating event and if I can provide some text books once again it would help.

We tried to dry out as many books as we could!
Be sure to click on the  many updates at the end of this post read about our gofundme journey...

We also hope one day to find a coporate sponsor for the school or for uniforms. Solidarite Dame-Marienne Ecole Communautaire is the only school in Dame Maria that doesn't wear uniforms.  The parents just can't afford them.

We are the only school that provides free education!

If you wish to contribute you will not only change the lives of the children but also provide an income for the teachers.

Even $5 helps!

Thank you for you generosity and creating brighter futures for children in Dame Marie, Haiti

Purpose of gofundme Campaign

You can help by purchasing books for 1 student for only $35 USD. Please put the books in the hands of students this coming school year and make a whole school smile!

In a quiet Haiti village, where families earn roughly $2 per day, students have to buy their school textbooks that cost as much as a month's income. Solidarity Dame Marian will provide text books for over 100 students in grades 1 to 6 in the remote village of Plonquette, Dame Marie.  By providing the textbooks, children will have access to better-quality education and the opportunity of improving their overall family situation as they learn and grow!  Every student will receive textbooks.  Parents cannot afford to send their children to school or to buy text books or school supplies. These lack of educational supplies causes teaching to be exclusively limited to oral instruction. Right now many of our students don’t have the books or share with large groups which makes it impossible to do homework and the teacher spends hours writing the text out on the chalkboards.

Solidarity Dame Marian book program will provide text books to every student who attends Solidarity Community School,  first to the sixth grade. Those students will receive all their textbooks at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year. The students will return them at the end of the year for next year’s students.
