The Sportula

The Sportula is a small group of Classics grad students who pooled their money to provide microgrants of $5-300 to undergrads with unexpected financial need.

Already, the need for this resource is much greater than we anticipated. We have provided microgrants for everything from boots for a dig, to textbooks, to travel money for a classics conference. Now, we need your help to make The Sportula sustainable for the long-haul.

Over the next month, from Lupercalia to The Ides of March, we will be doing a one-time, all-out fundraising drive. The level of funds we are able to raise this month will guide our decisions about our scope and how far we can expand going forwards. If you are considering donating to the sportula, this is the time!

But, this is about more than funds. This is about sending a message to economically marginalized students that we as a field have their back and see their genius and their struggle.

Thus even if you can't make a large monetary donation, please consider sending us one single dollar: As a symbol of how many Classicists want to see them thrive even when we ourselves may be broke. We are in this work for the long-haul whether or not we meet any amount of our extra-ambitious fundraising goal. Your financial solidarity will help us make the greatest impact we can.
