Hey guys! For those of you who do not know me, my name is Maria Aguirre. My parents are Rigoberto and Maria Aguirre, and I have three other siblings: Rigoberto, Martha, and Ashley Aguirre.
On May 7th, 2007, we arrived to our new home Madison, SD from Starkville, MS. How, what, and why?!
Well, prior to arriving to our new home, my dad had decided to take a road trip to South Dakota to visit his brother, and he had come across an empty building for rent in Madison, SD. A few days later, he decided to move all of us up there and start a Family Mexican Restaurant, which we would later call EL Vaquero, or El Vaq for short.
Unfortunately, we recently closed as of September 2nd, 2018 after ten years of being open. This was not an easy decision, because we loved serving the community of Madison and getting to know everyone!
… But closing was our only option. My dad, Rigoberto Aguirre has been battling cancer for a while now. He was diagnosed in 2014 with Melanoma (skin cancer), and he was once again diagnosed with Melanoma in 2018. Unfortunately, when the cancer returned he had no health insurance, and we were not eligible for any financial assistance. My dad’s health is not showing any improvement, but he has been receiving ongoing treatment. (Unfortunately, the cancer keeps coming back.) He can no longer physically run a business due to his health. All this has led to a lot of stress and uncertainty of what the future holds for us.
I am/was really reluctant about starting a GoFundMe, because this is something I am not really comfortable with. My parents do not know that my siblings and I are doing this. My dad is too proud to admit or accept any help, but in all honesty, we can get all the help available. (We are also thinking about doing a Taco Feed--- but that is still up in the air) I know that my parents do not really have a plan at the moment, but this is the only thing my siblings and I can think of to do that can help some. Any amount will help, and it will go to my parents and their hospital and treatment bills.
The Madison Community and others have already truly touched our hearts from all the support and prayers. We did not expect soo many people to reach out to us during this crisis and offer their help. You guys have already done so much! We just kind of created this just to see what happens, and as a way to help my parents out!
